“POINTS OF VIEW” BY BAXTER: WHO ARE THE THREE FINALISTS OF THE CONTEST LAUNCHED WITH OFFICINE, AND WHAT ARE THE THOUGHTS OF WHO IS BEHIND THE SCENES OF SUCH A MODERN PROJECT

      • YEAR: 2019

“Points of View”, the professional training contest for young filmmakers organized by Baxter and OffiCine during the Milan Design Week 2019, is finally taking shape. Three promising filmmakers, chosen by Baxter, will shoot the backstage of Fuorisalone with a smartphone. The final result: a docu-movie that narrates the city of Milan during its most famous design event through the eyes of new generations.

How was this project born and why? “The curiosity I see very crystal-clear in young people’s eyes, their typical approach – free from conventions, intrinsically digital but still with a sharp look, able to recognise beauty… That’s what has prompted me to look at the fantastic world of Milan during I Saloni and then to narrate of it, from a different perspective than my own”,so begins Paolo Bestetti, CEO of Baxter.

“Working with students who want to do this job really enriches and stimulates me”, begins Silvio Soldini, film director and Supervisor of the “Points of View” project. “I believe that this creative contest will be a great opportunity for the growth of these students, a chance to experiment an opening into different worlds and visual styles”. It is no coincidence, in fact, that a smartphone will be their main instrument: it’s a conscious choice, because of the young public who uses digital devices everyday.

After receiving hundreds of applications, the three finalists have been chosen by Mattia Colombo, Coordinator of the class. “To select the three ideal candidates we looked at the technical skills, the inclination to education, listening and team working. We also looked at their writing skills and their enthusiasm, passion and their unconventional visions”. The jury has awarded the works that showcased experimentation and versatility, with refined aesthetic and formal care.

Davide, Nicolò and Beatrice are the three, talented, ambitious finalists of “Points of View”. They come from different corners of Italy, but they have in common the passion for design and the dream to become filmmakers.

“I believe that dreams, to be realized, need step-by-step goals. My next target is finding a new fresh point of view to tell the Milan Design Week 2019”, says Beatrice Sancinelli.

Each of them has a personal point of view for the coming up Salone 2019. “I’m from Bari but I lived and studied in Milan, and I always loved the fun of the city, seen with the eyes of a foreign student. I think of Salone del Mobile as it was the prettiest girl in school and now it’s time to meet her”, comments the young Davide Angiuli.

Baxter will support the projects offering a grant to the three finalists: “I would like to film my first documentary, with my friend and colleague Jacopo. The title is “Arimo”, it’s a movie about the adolescence of children who have been living in foster-care homes, away from their families and how cinema and imagination can make a problematic situation more tolerable”, said the Milan-native Nicolò Braggion.
